When Matt and Luisa fall in love against the wishes of their feuding families, a modern-day Romeo and Juliet unfolds, with plenty of comedy, drama and music, along with a healthy dose of moonlight and magic. Featuring the beloved songs "Try to Remember," "They Were You" and "Soon It's Gonna Rain," the original off-Broadway run of this timeless musical lasted an astonishing 42 years and continues to charm sold-out audiences all over the world. See this romantic tale performed with live piano and harp accompaniment at the Sanctuary at Sandy Plaza in Portland.
Charlene is a suburban mother who writes erotic screenplays for women as a means to support her children. Clyde is her funny, dangerously obsessive and estranged husband. Then there are their two hormonally overcharged teenagers. Amidst all the chaos, Charlene is desperately trying to meet a super-tight deadline. This is the premise of Hot 'n' Throbbing, a gripping play by Paula Vogel, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of How I Learned To Drive. When Charlene's alcoholic husband returns, however, the comedic backdrop quickly gives way to a dark, intense -- and very adult -- examination of the intersection of pornography and domestic violence. Twilight Theater Company brings the show to the Portland stage.
Portland's bridges are as much a part of the city's character as The Unipiper, Voodoo Doughnut and people with earlobe plugs riding fixed gear bikes. This jet-boat tour gives you an up-close and in-depth look at a dozen landmark bridges crossing the Willamette River, each one representing a new chapter in engineering, design and the city's colorful history. From the towering St. Johns Bridge at the north end of the city to the newly replaced Sellwood Bridge to the south, this excursion aboard the Explorer Jet Boat is as informative as it is exhilarating.
