Get a jumpstart on your weekend with this brewery tour in Portland!'Hop on the bus and visit three local'breweries to get a behind the scenes look and taste the beers that are helping Portland become one of the'nation's premier beer destinations.
The first stop of this tour, Foundation Brewing Company, exists because they are passionate about brewing and sharing great beer with others. They focus on creating world-class beers that use classic styles as the inspiration for brewing exciting beers that push conventional boundaries. They opened their doors in 2014 and were founded by avid home-brewers Joel Mahaffey and John Bonney. They have expanded their production space that doubled their size, and their new comfortable tasting room is where you will start your visit.
Next, you'll head across the river to Fore River Brewing Company, which opened in South Portland in early 2016 and is already the oldest of three breweries in the city. John and TJ - two friends and avid home-brewers - teamed up with Alex the property owner (who had just sold his landscaping business) to open the brewery. They worked for months to handcraft and perfect their beers and the beautiful tasting room, which has both classic and modern barn elements in the design. Look for an outside beer garden at this spot just across the river from Portland.
Last, you will head back to Portland and Bunker Brewing Company.'Originally based in a tiny, brick-walled former scrapyard building in East Bayside, Bunker Brewing Company has moved to a much larger former warehouse on the West side of town. Their creative brewers make a rotating assortment of ales and lagers, making this the perfect stop during which to ask the question, 'What's the difference between an ale and a lager?' Enjoy their spacious tasting room and outside patio while pondering that important question over a well-crafted Bunker beer.
Once you've finished the tour, you will be dropped back off in the Old Port, where you can continue your exploration of lively downtown Portland.
